I haven’t any plant people friends and needed some people to show this girl off to!!! Posting this in a couple spots 🙂

(photos from when I first purchased are in the last slides!!)

I purchased this beauty back in September from a local chain nursery. She was my first Alocasia and the entryway to my obsession with them! She is absolutely thriving and is looking stunning as ever. It’s the middle of winter and dry as hell where I am (around 20% ambient humidity down from the usual 50% the rest of the year) however she is tanking it like a boss and it doesn’t seem to be slowing her down (other than some slightly crispy tips). She has taught me so much about alocasias and I’m so excited to see her continue to grow and flourish. She even has a baby now!!

While I’m here I also had a couple questions – the roots seem to have enough room but at what point would she appreciate a repot? Should I wait until the base has an inch or two of root buildup? I’m not entirely sure when they are considered too large for their pot. She is currently in a 4 inch pot as are most of my alocasias.

My other question – she has a bit of a bare backside – most (if not all) of my alocasias seem to face one main direction. If I place another growlight behind them would that encourage more all around growth? Since she is an especially bushy species of Alocasia her leaves are becoming crowded as they are all growing the same direction so I was hoping they might spread out more if I add another growlight. Is this possible or is mostly facing one direction (presumably wherever the light is) an Alocasia trait?
