I bought this two days and just noticed there were BUGS 🤢😭 I freaked out and did the first thing on google which was to make a spray bottle mixture of 1:5 isopropyl to water plus a drop of dish soap. I sprayed the entire plant fucking drenched that shit without considering whether it might harm the plant😭 I was just in panic. Some bugs died but I don’t expect the infestation to have cleared. What should I do now?? How do I clear the infestation?? Did the alcohol and dish soap damage the plant at all? If so should I carry the plant to the bathtub and rinse it or something?? Or what else would you recommend I do? Thanks so much.

The pot does not have drainage holes and I haven’t watered it yet since I got it a few days ago. The store says they let the soil dry out before watering. The plant gets moderate light.

  1. You don’t have drainage holes, so does that plant have dirt? Or is it just rocks and water? If it’s dirt, you definitely want drainage holes. If it’s just water and stones, you have a large propagation. Either way, I’d be changing either. Let us know and we can guide you further.

If you did ratio correctly you are all good. Just rinse leafs off with water recommend hose outside if accessible just because it’s easiest/cleanest. I’d repot due to the infestation even if they were hypothetically good bugs because it’s indoors. I’d repot with soil and a big hole for drainage to prevent root rot. And For infestation prevention I put systemic granules in the soil and it works wonders. Plants grow great still also, no negative side effects just don’t inhale it and use gloves when mixing it into dirt.

Lordy, the lack of drainage is a problem, even if you’re trying to water judiciously. Rocks on the top of the soil dont help. Light exposure is also a concern. Wet soil and less light will cause leaves to drop and cause fungus gnats to proliferate.

After saving it from the bugs, you may consider putting it closer to a light source, like a window or plant light. It’s not gonna do well in that dark corner!

Edit: just noticed the drapes, maybe just skootch it a bit nearer that window and put the light in the actual corner?

Update I SAW A CENTIPEDE LOOKING THING INSIDE THE PLANT. Do those normally accompany fungus gnats???!
