Those interested in becoming a Master Gardener can now enroll in the University of Wyoming Extension’s online program for Wyoming residents.
“I am so excited to get the online Master Gardener training up and going for 2026,” said Donna Hoffman, UW Extension educator and state Master Gardener coordinator. “I have had requests for the next course coming in since last spring, so I know there is enthusiasm for new Master Gardeners to help others know how to grow in Wyoming conditions.”
The 16-session course provides approximately 48 instructional hours, featuring presentations by 14 UW faculty members and extension educators. Topics to be discussed include soils and compost; plant identification; traditional and alternative turf; pruning and landscaping; entomology; water-wise gardening; integrated pest management; plant pathology and diagnosis; and growing fruits and vegetables in Wyoming.
Classes will take place via Zoom on Wednesdays 6-9 p.m., starting January 14 and running through May 27. All sessions are recorded and will be made available to course participants.
In addition to online resources and Zoom recordings provided throughout the course, trainees will receive a hard copy of “Sustainable Horticulture for Wyoming: A Master Gardener Handbook.” Books will be available at the county extension office closest to a participant’s home or place of work.

The Master Gardener training is a non-credit course and cannot be taken for college credit, but those who participate fully will receive a certificate of completion.
Graduates are encouraged to seek volunteer opportunities in their communities. To achieve the title of Master Gardener, they must complete 40 hours of volunteer time in coordination with a local Master Gardener coordinator. For more information, contact a local UW Extension office.
