Maldon District Council officially opened the second phase in a ceremony on Monday, December 22.
The garden features play boards, natural play elements, and a sensory area designed to offer inclusive play opportunities for children of all ages.
Construction work for the project was carried out by Kompan, who delivered play facilities across the district in 2024.
Kevin Lagan, chairman of Maldon District Council, said: “We are proud to see the completion of this exciting project, which reflects our commitment to making the district a more inclusive and welcoming place for everyone.
“The new play area and sensory garden provide fantastic opportunities for children and families to enjoy Promenade Park together.
“This investment demonstrates how we are working to create spaces that celebrate accessibility, nature, and the community.”
Mr Lagan formally opened the area alongside his granddaughter Quinn, the council’s chief executive Doug Wilkinson, Maldon East ward councillor Andrew Lay and Kompan area sales manager Steven Elliott.
The sensory garden has been designed to stimulate the senses and create a calming, interactive environment.
It features a variety plants such as lavender, rosemary, and lamb’s ear to create a soothing combination of scents, textures, and colours.
The space aims to promote wellbeing and accessibility, ensuring everyone can enjoy the benefits of nature in a welcoming setting.
The project has been supported by the council’s assets, coast and countryside officers and funded through the Government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
Funding from the scheme is aimed at helping improve quality of life in communities.
