Each fall, from the first day of October to the second day of November, the Atlanta Botanical Gardens hosts fun fall affairs, most notably, its annual Scarecrows in the Garden event. I was lucky enough to visit this beautiful preservation park during the changing seasons, and I couldn’t help but stare in awe as I perused the exhibits of scarecrows, blooming buds, and pumpkin collections, carefully arranged to reflect the onset of fall. Even more memorable was seeing a small nature cove in the middle of the concrete jungle that is Atlanta. Watching the bright, rejuvenated looks illuminate the faces of the guests beside me only enhanced the already fulfilling and wonderful experience I had there. With these photos, I invite you to join me and experience the serenity and life energy that being at the botanical gardens in this season gave me.

The pumpkin assortments are undoubtedly one of the best things about fall in the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. From the tiniest gourds to the rotund, bright orange pumpkins that line the pathways, seeing the fall coded fruits arranged so perfectly alongside haystacks and flowers only makes one enjoy the crisp fall air even more. Some of these tiny pumpkins remind us of the fact that it is really the little things in life that can bring the greatest delight.

Perhaps, the most captivating sight of all at the Gardens during fall time is the ‘Scarecrows in the Garden’ that are posted up everywhere around the perimeter. These scarecrows are creative little decorations crafted by community members and local businesses to celebrate this beautiful season. Each scarecrow is marked with a tag that states who made it and what it is supposed to represent. A few that especially caught my eye were (from left to right) the K-POP Demon Hunters crew, Hello Kitty, and even Turnip Head from “Howl’s Moving Castle.” The detail and time with careful consideration only highlight the craftsmanship of so many people in our community. Anything that brings us together, makes us stronger, and these creations are just one artistically beautiful representation of togetherness within the Atlanta community.

Even with all the fun fall sights, we can’t forget the natural beauties of the botanical gardens that are there to see full-time. The plush greens are undeniably gorgeous, and simply exploring the coves and flower preservation halls makes one feel more connected to Mother Nature, the way any garden should. Whether one is interested in seeing the timeless red roses, the tropical blooms, or even the unique desert plants that have their own sanctuary, there is truly something for every nature lover to enjoy.
