Texas Gulf Coast area. These guys are shooting up out of my St Augustine. I went to pull one thinking it might have shallow roots but nope, the root is thick (the diameter of a sharpie marker) and extends well into my lawn from what I think is coming from my neighbors yard. Whatever it is, it’s also creeping up the neighbors side of the fence and is poking its way thru to my side. Any idea what this is and how I can neutralize it? Thanks in advance.

I get them growing in my Grisselenia hedging all the time.
