In the fall of 1990 (14 yo) I was eating dates from the Safeway bulk bins. When I was finished I put a date pit into a pot. This is that seed 35 yrs later. It’s grown so slow and it looks nothing like a date palm. It’s ugly but I can’t seem to part with it. It stays in my back arcade room lol
A date palm that was born and has lived in Colorado its whole life.

That’s one cool room you’ve got there. Happy holidays
You’re that plant’s emotional support human.
What a legacy
Besides a little unfortunate name-calling, it speaks highly of you being so considerate of your dates.
You seem like a super cool person! We need more pics of that arcade room though 😍 that carpet!!!
That’s a baddass plant, buddy. 🪴
Everything about this rules
Amazing, just give it more light and some fertilizer to let it do it’s thing after 35 years!
This is very sentimental and should be kept sacred. Very cool.
My husband successfully started some from seed this summer … and my cat chewed on them and now they are hanging on for dear life 😞
That’s a long relationship with sentimental value. It’s growing from your care and patience. I’d be attached too🤗!!
It will get there…eventually. Good job!
Arabs have a saying: “Why would you plant date tree if you will never eat its fruit?”
Meaning you invest for future generations.
Its just grass. Grass seed gets in dirt quite often
Can your date model some of your collections to us?
I admire your commitment, I would have tossed it 29 years ago
You probably won’t eat it’s fruits but your date plant makes you wise according to an old proverb
I think it’s a cute plant
Aaaaa I’m obsessed with this! I need to know your zodiac sign haha
Keep it forever
If you’re serious- see if there’s a local greenhouse that would take it in and check it often to see if it decides to become a real palm
Itll grow bigger if you up pot it
Transformers, GI Joe, but no TMNT? What gives? 😅
Maybe take it outside in the sun. It might like you more.
That’ll do pig
It’s a long way from Saudi Arabia! I’m germinating some date palm seeds just for the hell of it right now. I’ll drop an update in 35 years….
