A fairytale gothic mansion with gardens by England’s most iconic landscape artist is on the sale for £700,000.

The Great Hall of Wynnstay Hall Estate is the embodiment of romanticism, being described as a setting from a Byron poem.

It has known great wealth and importance in its time, once being the seat of the Watkins Wynn family who commission architect Benjamin Ferrey to build the Great Hall in the French Gothic style in 1858 following a devastating fire.

The Grade II listed four bedroom mansion features a porte cochère – an entrance that vehicles can drive through – and turrets that overlook the majestic sweeping parkland of England’s most famous landscaper, Capability Brown.

These special gardens are Grade I listed in their own right – meaning they are of national and historic importance.

Despite its gothic exterior and steeped history, the home does not neglect the modern age, being fitted with its own private cinema room, an yoga space and a private bar.

The estate sits at Ruabon, near Wrexham in north Wales.

There is not a moment spared to guests when they are introduced to the grandeur of this splendid house.

After driving along the long gravel drive through the immaculate scenery among the Welsh valleys, the house appears and invites you through its massive stone portico.

Huge ornately carved double doors open onto an entrance porch which then leads into an open plan living area.

Here, soaring carved 30-foot ceilings are revealed, wooden panels and ancient extravagant 20-foot fire places.

The interior has been styled to be reminiscent of cruise ships in a unique style.

At the other end of the open plan ground floor is a dining area, furnished with a rustic sense where wooden church pews serve as table chairs.

Just around the corner is the games area, complete with a pool table, while in the back is a kitchen and breakfast room.

Upstairs you find the master bedroom with a walk in wardrobe and beautiful ensuite bathroom featuring a stormy blue-grey tiled theme with bath and separate walk-in shower.

The second bedroom opposite also has an ensuite and both this room and the master bedroom has access to a huge balcony at the back of the property.

Opposite the bedrooms on this floor is a gallery which offers sweeping views down into the great hall, with a 20-foot bookcase behind. This bookcase was once the setting for a grand organ which is now preserved in Cardiff Museum.

Further up the stairs you find two more bedrooms, both with ensuite bathrooms and both with access to a balcony.

On the other side of the floor you find the cinema room, complete with vintage red velvet cinema seats and a bar.

The ceiling in this room is perhaps the most striking in the property with beautifully ornate carvings and just below it is fringed by a Welsh-language frieze where it meets the walls.

The Great Hall sits in its own three acre private field and garden, set amongst the community gardens of the estate.

From here there are sweeping views of the magnificent Chirk Castle.

Rare established trees – like the liriodendron – provide shade from the summer sun.

Lavender borders hum with bees while hares and squirrels bound along the beautiful landscape.
