The Dyer County Master Gardeners met on Tuesday, Dec. 9, for their annual Awards Banquet.
Mr. Terrell Davis, County Director, reported that the Master Gardener Association worked a total of 4,479.75 volunteer hours in 2025. This is a value to Dyer County of $155,850.00. Master Gardeners are involved in many community activities each year, such as Farmer’s Market, Sorghum Valley Christmas, Dyer County Fair, Annual Plant Sale, Okeena Park beds and Arboretum, and Oakview Park in Newbern.
This year, the Association hosted the Tennessee Extension Master Gardeners Western Region, which involved a bus tour of master gardeners from all over the state of Tennessee to view Okeena Park and Arboretum for the exceptional work provided there.
“The Master Gardener program is known for the people you meet and the relationships you make,” Terrell said. Education is an emphasis in the work of the group. To teach someone how to grow their own food is an accomplishment.
