I’m not sure if this is the right place to post this or not. I was hoping someone may be able to give some insight on what’s happening to this tree in my backyard.

Basically, the bark on the backside of the tree where it gets some sun is just falling off. I don’t know when it started but it’s been going on for months.

I’m not sure what kind of tree it is but I’m in DFW in Texas if that helps.

Please let me know!

It’s dying… sorry. Ash tree? If so, google ash borer beetle.

Looks like EAB. Probably want to get rid of it soon if you have other ash trees you value nearby

It is dying. Get it removed before it hits something.

Hate to see it go. It’s in a perfect place for the hammock. Thank you everyone!

That’s a very soon to be dead tree. I’m thinking Oak not Ash.

You’re seeing the destructive compounding process of rot + insects + animals pulling the insects out… Ultimately you need to look at the canopy to determine how cooked the tree is. based on the amount of bark coming off… it’s probably showing signs of decline up top… dead sections, early losing leaves, or already stone dead…
