What We Know

A Hoboken Girl reader shared information via a DM that a woman had been assaulted over the weekend near the Hoboken Shelter. We reached out to the Hoboken Police Department which confirmed the incident via a statement. “On Dec. 20, 2025, at approximately 1:25 p.m., Hoboken Police responded to the 300 block of Garden Street on reports of an assault. An on-scene investigation revealed that a man, later identified as 48-year-old Yamel Acosta of Union City, kicked a woman in the buttocks, causing her to fall to the ground.

The Hoboken Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded as well. The victim refused medical attention. Acosta was located nearby and charged with simple assault before being released on summons. Hoboken Police are working with the Jersey City Medical Center’s Mobile Crisis Outreach Response Team, in an effort to provide Acosta with the appropriate resources.”

The victim, who wanted to remain anonymous, also shared her thoughts with The Hoboken Girl. “This incident is deeply disturbing, given it involved a two-year-old child. Residents should remain extremely vigilant, especially mothers with young children, and immediately report suspicious behavior.”

The Hoboken Girl will share more information when it becomes available.
