Cactus was looking totally fine and normal before moving to a new spot closer to the window. I put it back in its original location once I noticed discoloration. I rarely water and when I do it’s a small amount directly into the soil. I’ve had this for 6+ years and this happened over 3 days… anything I can do to save it?

It was already very etiolated and desperate for sun. It’s a goner.
This thing needed years of waaaaay more light.
Let’s not move plants to dark areas please. Specially cacti. 🙁
I doubt it will bounce back
You can maybe chop off the top and propagate. I don’t know what you did to it, either got cold damage or sun damage since you haven’t watered recently and moved it near a window. I’m going to guess cold damage since it’s winter. It’s dead but on a side note it is way too skinny and wasn’t getting enough sun to begin with. Cacti need a lot of sun full time.
In general, if you want to give a plant much more light than it is normally accustomed to, you have to acclimatize it slowly. This means exposing the plant to a given intensity of light for a slowly increasing amount of time. By just moving the plant without acclimatization as you have done, you essentially gave it a massive case of sunburn.
In the future, succulents like this need a looooooot more light than you were giving this one, so keep the above advice in mind if you have other plants that are just as etiolated as this one.
You put it in a sunny window recently? It’s corking.
This cactus needs water so bad
I kinda don’t believe this happened in 3 days.
