I knew about giant pumpkins because they just do it sometimes, but this? This is unbelievable, all 3 generations of gardeners got together and still can't believe. From this point on we would choose not only for best shape to be baked but a biggest too. We want to know what we can achieve!
True short story. In the 80ās my neighbors mom grew zucchinis for competitions like this. Inevitably sheād have left overs that were huge, but not āprize winningā. So, me, my brothers and the neighborhood boys came up with a game. āZucchini the Meanyā.. objective. One personās guards a zucchini on a stool in the yard, everyone else has bats⦠you get tagged, youāre out. You smash the zucchini with your batā¦You win!š
Needless to say, sometimes the bat hit other things than the zucchini⦠š
bro… people are getting mad at this lady and calling her efforts a waste of time and resources. This is science and an art, and it can provide a data source on potential ways to grow food better and more consistently. These videos are also educating us for goodnThere's a lot more value in her work than what the complaining doomscrollers are doing for hours each day
I believe in you! Rooting for you this coming year! Youāre gonna break the record!
I donāt bury nodes either, but occasionally they root themselves. I have seen node burying save squash that rot at the stem but Iām unsure if marrows commonly have this issue?
(Loved the little zucchini frost cover weights, thanks for the laughš¤£)
I hope you saved every seed from that? I used to grow big pumpkins. I got the seeds from Ray Waterman back in the early 1990s. When I met Ray he was at his restaurant trying to clear a drain pipe with a record tall stalk of corn. š This was back when nobody grew a 1,000 pounder yet. My personal best from those seeds was 442 pounds. Which was something back then.
Now that even better genetics are available I still would like to try to grow a 1,000 pounder someday.
Congrat!š I've never seen these big squashes and didn't know it was a thing until I saw this video.
