This month, the popular Humberston-based Big Red Shed is celebrating 10 years in business.
Founded as a family-run venture, Big Red Shed quickly evolved beyond its modest beginnings. In early 2016, the team transformed the premises to offer everyday essentials, hardware, gardening supplies and pet care. By March of that year, the garden centre had expanded outdoors, establishing itself as a go-to destination for local gardeners. That same year also saw the launch of the Little Red Cafe, which later evolved into Beckitt’s Cafe and remains a popular stop for visitors.
Over the years, Big Red Shed has continued to adapt to customer needs, introducing an automotive department, expanding outdoor and garden sections, and launching new initiatives designed to enhance the shopping experience. One of the standout additions was the Big Red Bear mascot, which quickly became a hit with children and helped raise funds for local charities, including St Andrew’s Hospice.
Alongside its growth, Big Red Shed has reinvested in local causes, supported charity efforts, hosted events and created opportunities for local people.
Today, Big Red Shed employs more than 30 people and continues to pride itself on being a place where everyone feels welcome. As they look back on ten years of milestones, challenges and celebrations, the team took to social media to express heartfelt gratitude to both staff and customers.
“The past decade has been an incredible journey,” the business shared in its announcement. “Our team has become more like family, and our loyal customers have played a huge role in shaping Big Red Shed into what it is today. We are so excited for the future ahead.
With a decade behind them and ambitious for the years ahead, Big Red Shed says it is ready for the next chapter, continuing its commitment to serving the community with “heart, care and a smile.”
