So I’ve been gifted what I thought was a hibiscus bearing white flowers, and then all of a sudden I notice this weird flower it has. It’s the only pink one among the bunch, and it even has one white petal. Is this some sort of mutation?

    Tropical hibiscus, *Hibiscus x rosa-sinensis*

All varieties/cultivars are inherently caused by mutations. Some of those mutants are cultivated to preserve desirable traits giving way to varieties and cultivars. And sometimes those mutations are unstable, particularly in newer variants. This can lead to reverted pigments/shape in the whole plant or individual parts of the plant like here in just one particular flower
