Can I just put some rooting powder on this stem and stick in some cactus soil? Or should I take some leaves off and put on soil? Never tried to prop one of these guys before

I wait until it grows a good amount of air roots before planting

Depending on when the tip of the stem was chopped from the main plant, wait for the tip to harden/callous over. Then all you have to do is stick it in gritty soil and roots will eventually form. Give it a soak after a couple days.

You can also take a row of leaves off and just lay them on soil under decent light. DO NOT water or mist the leaves. If they are healthy enough, they will push out little roots. Guide those into the soil then start lightly watering.

  3. I’ve been having good luck starting smaller ones like that in a little water. Just plant the stem in a glass for like a month. It will start growing roots and I’ve had good luck starting them in soil after that!

I always chop, pluck a few bottom leaves, wait 48 hours, and stick it in soil. Has a 100% success rate so far lol
