Walter discusses how to train arakawa maples, pinching vs. hedge pruning, and how he selects containers for bonsai.

This video is part seven of a nine part series filmed in Walter’s garden following his Summer 2025 Masterclass hosted by Thomas Haering at the Bonsaigarten Munich. Follow Walter at: https://www.instagram.com/walter_pall/

  1. Wonderful series with Mr. Pall and his trees. I hope that you can gather a video of the trees with a neutral background and a 360 to truly appreciate these exquisite trees. A lot is lost with the existing background.
Is Mr. Pall going to finish writing the book? Thanks

  2. Walter is one angry moody dude! Not a sensei for me hence why I never followed him. All that talent but hard to stand in a latrine to absorb it.

  3. Walter "i've 50 trees to hedge prune and no friends to help" hahahaha. i once had a normal Acer Pal that I cut the top off and hedge pruned the base the ramification was tremendous.

  4. Wow first bonsai site where it's honest . Would love to meet and get to learn and see these awesome trees. Just brutal honestly love it

  5. Well now we know, we no longer need to worry about forgetting to pinch our maples in spring. One less thing to worry about.
