My cousin cut a branch on his tree 2 years ago and put a rubber compound called Lac Basalm over the wound. Now there is this discoloration and moist bark underneath (the discoloration going down the tree). I told him to send pictures before making anymore moves and I’d ask this sub.

    Literally nothing you can do about it now. Your cousin should not have done either of those things.

    Looks like Chinese Elm. It’ll weep from that wound for at least the next decade, as it’ll take at least that long for it to callus over…if it ever does.

    Two major no-nos never remove a major limb like that and most importantly never ever ever ever seal wounds on trees that how you get a whole host of issues happening.

    Possible fungal infection. Siberia elms weep a lot and get infections which don’t usually kill them, unfortunately.
