Hi everyone. I got this ficus bonsai 2 years ago and its been going well so far. Past few months, I havent paid it too much attention aside from watering.

However today I noticed that there seems to be some white which from my researxh seems to be deposits from hard water. I just wanted to confirm if thats correct

Also how can I deal with the rot part at the bottom. Its not soft but definitely not as hard as the rest of the trunk

Other than that its near a window so it does get sunlight and since its winter, the heat is around 70ish and I try to mist it every 2 days with water every 3 days

Let it dry out more and filtering the water is a good start

Don’t mist your plants. It just breeds fungal issues! The white could be fungus/mold

You are most likely overwatering. With this type of plant it’s very important to water deeply and then do NOT water it again until the top layer of soil is nice and dry again. Regular wet/dry cycles are important.

You didn’t include a photo of the white spot, so I can’t really comment on that. If you are misting, it could be hard water stains though. Don’t bother misting your plants. It doesn’t really help with humidity and can cause trouble.

I can’t see where this plant is living, but this is a light loving plant. It really needs to be in a bright window. Indirect light isn’t really enough for them to thrive.
