Gardeners’ World fans were left heartbroken as Monty Don confirmed the programme’s “last show” was “fast approaching”.

The beloved BBC series is drawing to a close for 2025, leaving keen gardeners with limited opportunities to watch new episodes before the end of the year.

Even Monty appeared somewhat wistful as he posed alongside his faithful companion, dog Ned, in his garden shed.

The official Gardeners’ World social media account shared: “Our LAST show of the year is fast approaching! Don’t miss Monty and Ned as they get into the festive spirit tonight at 8pm on BBC Two, tomorrow at 10am or if you’re in Wales 8:15pm!” The post was accompanied by a festive Santa Claus emoji.

Viewers flocked to the comments section, expressing their disappointment that the programme will be off air until 2026.

One viewer commented: “Looking forward to watching. We wish all the GW team and their adorable furry companions a very healthy and restful Christmas. Thanks for another year of gardening wisdom,” reports the Express.

Another admitted: “Not me crying because no more GW until 2026!” whilst someone else quipped: “Can’t wait, and then the TV goes back in the oak cabinet until GW returns in 2026. Make it soon if you can, please!”

A further fan added: “Thank you for the winter specials, they really helped stave off the winter blues.”

Fortunately, devotees won’t have to endure too long a wait for their Monty fix. He’ll be returning to BBC Two for a special new series commencing Friday, January 16th – Monty Don’s Rhineland Gardens.

Monty gave fans a sneak peek into the making of the series, sharing a photo of himself in the studio with a microphone and laptop displaying video footage.

The announcement has already sparked excitement among fans. One enthused: “This is marvellous news.”

Another fan echoed the sentiment, saying, “Ooh, looking forward to watching that!” A third chimed in with: “Wonderful – something to look forward to. Happy Christmas to you!”
