Need some help with curing/finishing my flower. I grow beautiful nugs that smell phenomenal when growing and trimming but most the time smells like leafs when dried. I usually wet trim then hang on the stems till the stem snaps then to jars for standard burping. Wondering if anyone has any tips?

I’ve only experienced this doing a wet trim, try big leafing than hang to dry and dry trim, burp exct.
All that hair is sending me
I used a dehumidifier it works great set at 65 degrees used it inside my tent, hang plant separated so no bud rot,I used a trim bowl,& dry trimmed it,either way what works for you is best, but it adds up to $$$ but always good results, after 8/10 days & a nice snap of your stems the small ones at least, you’ll be good to go,they say that your plants hold 70% of water, after using the dehumidifier it’s very true, every morning my tank was full, then terp bags or mason jars that you will need to burp,it all comes together, just take your time, and wallah smoko time after a few weeks, I used the terp bags very cheap, have fun gromie…😎🇦🇺🇦🇺
You r welcome 😎🇦🇺🇦🇺
Start over
Keep your pets away from your grow ffs 🤦♂️
I don’t have a tip! But I have to say that the first one is fantastic 🥇
Don’t wet trim
Dialing down your nitrogen at the end will greatly help along with grove curing bags. You need to dry in the correct temperature and humidity as well. If you get a strong hay taste, this is just high nitrogen and you can cure that out. Faster road to what you want is to switch to calcium acetate in the last two weeks or turn off calmag in the last two weeks. This should point you in the proper direction now. I get spider mites and have to wet trim and bud wash, and my stuff still comes out fire. You wet trimming it most likely is not the reason for any bad taste. Look elsewhere. Getting a better taste required a lot and most of it was the calmag, but adding epsom salts helped too. Along with lowering my nitrogen in the end and turning up my p-k.
Ditto on cutting the big leaves and rest later. Dial in the dry humidity and temp, easy to loose the terps during this period. Buds look great 👍
I wouldn’t wet trim
aim to dry for at LEAST 7days any sooner and you’ll def have this issue
you need temps to be 55-65F and humidity at around 50% no lower then 40% and no higher then 60%
Cut any dying fan leafs off when you cut the it down and leave all sugar leaves then once dry cut off sugar leaves to your desire and cure
Also don’t use humid paks i dont think they actually help the cure
i aim for 50-60% RH inside the Jars when curing
The only time to use Humid Paks are AFTER the dry and cure and the weed has become to dry ( like it just breaks/crumbles in to dust) it will help keep the weed “fresher” for longer.
I had this happen before from drying to quickly with a dehumidifier.
Looks really good. Great job! What’s the strain?
Stop wet trimming, this can’t be said enough. Hang whole plant or whole branches in a cool dark place running 60 degree temp with 60% humidity. 10-14 days it should take. Then, check the humidity after placing a sample batch in a half full jar. Should read 60-64% humidity after 8-10 hours. I find the brittle branch snap method leads to over-drying. Measure the humidity. Then trim, into jars, daily burping protocols etc.
When I switched to this, using a dedicated 2×4 tent with a spare inline fan and a humidifier I’ve never had a bad cure since. Wet trimming and drying too fast has led me to hay smelling nugs and severe disappointment.
Never wet trim. Whole plant dry with large fan leaves to protect the flowers
You need help smoking I’m in
Mfs act like some animal hairs the end of the world 😂Don’t worry about the comments you can easily pick them off when you’re trimming
That’s typical. When you cure that goes away. Cut grass/hay smell is due tot the chlorophyll left in the plant. WheN you cure it, it removes this and the terpenes start to blossom. The way you trim is up to you, and either way will work. It all comes down to opinion. I usually leave the sugar leaves on but take the fan leaves. I have a really dialed in drying area and it usually gets to about 66% after 6 days. Then I buck the buds off the stem trying to remove the thickest stems because they hold a lot of moisture. Then I go straight to the jar and let them stay in the box another 48 hours uncovered. After that I seal them and start the burping process. This is my process. Others may vary.
The smell you are talking about is the chlorophyll break down , make sure you dry in complete darkness at a steady humidity around 50-60 and temps around 60-70. Dry trim will allow the chlorophyll to break down during the drying process. However wet trim will kind of prolong and prevent this due to taking all the leaves off that transpose the chlorophyll. Also make sure that the stems snap befor doing anything else once dry
Doesn’t look like you need any help she’s ready for chop
Dry slow in the dark 7 to 14 days fan blowing in the room but not on the plants and take big fans before you hang
It sounds like you’re waiting just a little bit too long don’t wait until it’s completely crispy until the Sims snap wait until about 2 days before that where the stems almost snap and then jar up your buds because over time they still dry out
Don’t wet trim as others have said. And it seems like your drying to quickly so keep an eye on humidity you want it around 50% on a de him and keep the room at around 65 degrees. As others have stated these conditions depend on where you live but in California I leave them as full plants as the big stems hold a lot of moisture and will help prevent drying to fast. When I harvest I like to go into an air tight container with a humidity meter ( be aware of rising humidity levels because of mold) and start the cure right away and as you trim put them into a separate air tight spot to be their long term curing place. This can take another week or two to get it so the nose and smoke POPS. You can let them dry as long as you need too so don’t rush it keep it cold during drying and storage and hopefully this helps your buds become top shelf. Everything looks great and good luck to you!!
Best to trim the bigger leaves before drying and then trim all sugar leaves after drying.
Yea as others said don’t wet trim. Also if you cannot get ideal dry temps and RH then i would recommend doing the paper bag dry method. Search up a guide on it buts its basically putting them in paper bags and checking daily/moving them around, until they are around 65% in jars. Works like a charm for me.
Chop the whole plant and hang upside down. Only remove the big water leaves. Curing is a process and should not be rushed. You should have the plants hang somewhere with complete darkness and proper airflow. Don’t have fans hitting the plants directly.
Ideally you’d want to have the dry room set to 66-68 degrees and have the humidity set to 55-60%. After about 8 days I would recommend that you buck the buds into a tote and have it covered about 80% for 2 additional days then trim.
I get both sides but when you cut a living leaf it coagulates like a scab would on a person and makes they leaf
taste way more prevalent
in my experience waiting until the stems snap is too long. I would go around 6-8 days max of drying. but it depends on your conditions obviously. i go around 60% rlf and 18°C
😳😳 just amazing bro 🤩🤩🤩
I would 100% stop wet trimming and also stop letting your animals in the grow room. Burnt hair smells and tastes terrible and their is no doubt some getting stuck in your buds
Hang dry the plant full for 12-14 days 18°c 60%rh then dry trim and store in grove bags in a cool dark place for 2-3 weeks minimum.
You probably dried it to fast try a paper bag or box next time shake it daily jars and grove bags work better
This sounds like a problem with the genetics.
Whats the smell coming from? Lack of aromatic & volatile compound diversity/characterization & terpenoid robustness from unoptimal methodolgy?
Pull fan leaves before drying then trim sugar leaves after it’s dried, if desired.
I quit trimming sugar leaves entirely.
Just quit. Cat or dog hair all over the place. Just give up
Same experience with my first plant. Second was the best i’ve smoked in a long time. Every plant after was everything i wanted from my own weed and i have high expectations with a low work ethic! So you can do it too! 👊
The last weeks of the grow, keep the temp low! The higher the temp the more terps get lost.
Try to keep the condition at about 18c° and 60% rh when you dry. Harvest one day before the snap, put some Boveda 62% or 58% inside the jar for curing and you will get what you want. Try to dry trim too 😉
Very nice!
I use bags.

However it’s happening the hanging plants are losing humidity too quickly.
If the leaf doesn’t have a petiole id recommend not trimming it until cured, then the key is slow. Don’t pull humidity out too quickly, don’t move air in and out except very slowly and occasionally, don’t have fans blowing on the hanging plants and don’t let the temp get higher than 70. Also make sure your lights aren’t hitting the flower while it’s curing. Hay smell results from the humidity dropping too quickly resulting in what I call a “flash” cure.
I’d try all these things until you get a feel for it. I’d get a humidistat to put your vents on and set it to no higher than 65%. I’d also recommend getting a tyvek lab coat to cover your clothes and keep your white haired cat/dog away from your grow.
Low and slow 60 degrees with 60%humidity and hang the entire plant without trimming. After about 2 weeks maybe slightly longer the buds come off the plant with that nice crack that you expect when cracking a nice nug up and ready to be bagged up after trimming. Drying is one of the most important parts of growing and if it’s done wrong there is no saving it
I’m not sure if anyone has said this already but the reason you’re having issues post harvest is because of GLVs or Green Leaf Volitiles. A quick Google search will explain all about it but basically when you cut fresh plant tissue it releases chemicals that humans can detect at very low concentrations. That’s what that grassy or hay smell is from. Curing or drying differently can help with the smell but its better to avoid the production of those chemicals altogether. Dry your cannabis at 60%humidity and 60deg F for 18 days and trim by hand, with a roller/dry trimmer, or a Trim Bag. You will have much better results.
CUT THE BIG LEAVES AND TRIM THE REST AFTER ITS DRY🗣️plus the smell will usually always leave for a little bit. Humidity could be too high or too low. Temp should be between 60-70 degrees Fahrenheit
Wet trim is probably nuking your terps, especially if you’re drying too fast. Try a full or partial dry trim, keep temps around 60 to 65°F and RH 55 to 60 percent, and aim for a 10 to 14 day dry instead of “stem snap then jar.”
Also toss a cheap hygrometer in a jar and keep your cure around 58 to 62 percent RH for at least a few weeks. That grassy / leafy smell usually means chlorophyll did not break down fully or you dried too quick.
Dry it longer… you are getting foul taste and smells feom not being dried out properly
Not sure long long your dry time is maybe slow it down a bit or cure your buds for a longer period of time.
Longer cure.
Okay so what you need to do is dry much longer. Invest into a small dehumidifier in a closet or dedicated grow tent and dry at 50RH for a solid 3 weeks and trim into regular HDX storage totes THAT YOU STORE IN THE SAME AREA AT 60RH to cure until you are ready to jar/bag up and can do a final trim. Having a 60 percent keeps the terps from being volatile in storage but you have to achieve 50 to thoroughly dry to the center of the buds before then. I used to live in an area that would stay around 40 so I had to use tortillas in the storage bins to bring some moisture back after I trim. It’s a real balancing act as at a lower RH the bud will smell amazing but after a while loses some of its smell and taste so storing at 60 and letting it “burp” it’s way down to 50 as you consume is what you are really looking for. Hope this was helpful!
