ENCINITAS — Lightscape has returned to the San Diego Botanic Garden for the holiday season, bringing an after-dark walking trail of illuminated art installations to the garden’s grounds. The event runs on select evenings now through Jan. 4.
The experience guides visitors along a roughly 1-mile outdoor path through the 37-acre garden, where trees, plants and open spaces are lit with large-scale light displays created by international and U.S.-based designers. The trail is one-way and self-paced, with most guests taking about an hour to an hour and a half to complete the walk.
Tickets must be purchased in advance and are sold by entry time. Prices vary by date, with adult tickets starting around the low $30 range and discounted rates available for children. Garden members receive reduced pricing on select nights. Parking is available on site, and guests are encouraged to arrive close to their scheduled entry time.
Lightscape is held outdoors and takes place rain or shine. Organizers recommend wearing comfortable shoes and warm clothing, as evening temperatures can drop. Additional information, including ticket availability and nightly schedules, is posted at lightscapeus.com/san-diego.
