The two councillors said in the South Hams a bench with a plaque and maintenance would cost £1,680 for 10 years.
The Local Democracy Reporting Service said in Teignbridge, people were charged up to £1,885 for installation and maintenance, with benches being repainted every four to six years, and Westminster City Council charged £1,625 for 10 years in prime London locations.
The motion from the two councillors called on Torbay to abolish what they called the “two-tier zone system” and for charges to be reviewed.
They said they wanted a 15-year sponsorship model with a consultation at the end of the period on renewal or maintenance.
They added they wanted “affordable and reasonable” prices while covering installation and maintenance costs. Their suggestion was between £2,200 and £2,400 for a 15-year bench sponsorship anywhere in Torbay.
