One of Cork’s best-known girl’s school has got an impressive new sensory garden – a haven of peace for staff and pupils during the busy school day.
Scoil Bhríde Eglantine in Ballinlough is the location for the new garden, which took over a year to plan and install, and could not have been done without the support of parents, supporters and local businesses.
The school’s parent’s association played a big role in the works, with the help and support of the Principal Ger O Brien. The garden by the side of the main playground has a bespoke Sensory Pathway, seating areas, Mud Kitchens, Planter boxes, a calmning water feature and lots more.
The school says the “design ensures that girls from all the classes, no matter how young or old will be able to spend time in the garden exploring and engaging in this multi-sensory environment in order to benefit their development and their capacity for sensory integration and processing, while having lots of fun.”
And the girls themselves did a huge amount of work on it – raising €5,500 raised by the girls during a sponsored ‘Lapathon’ around the schoolyard.
