What is this small seed-like item? It has a rough texture, almost like a very smooth round avocado. Very hard. Found at an op shop. Very light, my scales don't register it!
Did you brought it from somewhere with Indian or hindu influence? It looks like elaeocarpus ganitrus fruit! People mostly used the seeds but I’ve seen them using the whole seed too. The sheen comes from impregnating it with oil

I found it on a leather chord necklace in Australia if that helps 😊

I think it might be a stone. A seed would never hold up to being a necklace charm. It would eventually dessicate and breakdown.
Try tektite or Colombianite orayne some resinous Thai amulet.
My educated guess is not a seed. How much does it weigh?
As seeds get older they get lighter and lighter. I have a giant vase filled with avocado pits that are basically paper after 6 months.
Since you’re in Australia I’m guessing it’s one of the Thai amulets or this
