Fourteen-year-old Ashley Owens, who had raised more than £29,000 for the charity Paws2Rescue, was preparing for a significant milestone as he approached his 1,000th night camping out in a tent.
This initiative, called “sleep out to help out”, aimed to bring attention to the plight of abandoned dogs and raised funds to support their rehoming.
In her letter, Queen Camilla expressed her “admiration” for Ashley’s dedication.
She added: “I am full of admiration for your determination to do everything to rescue these poor animals.
“You are making an incredible difference to dogs across the world.”
Throughout his campaign, Ashley displayed remarkable resilience, enduring harsh weather conditions, including storms, freezing temperatures, and heatwaves.
He even experienced the challenge of his old tent collapsing under the weight of snow.
At the time, Ashley said: “While there are still dogs being badly treated and sleeping on the streets, I will continue to sleep in my tent.”
Ashley began his fundraising efforts back in 2021, at the tender age of 11, and has supported various dog rehoming charities globally.
