Originally scheduled to reopen by Dec. 25, Hoʻomaluhia Botanical Garden will now reopen Jan. 5, 2026, due to ongoing rainy weather delaying the repaving of the garden’s road.
The project to repave all 2.4 miles of the garden’s main road started in mid-November, making its way from the southern end toward the main entrance on Luluku Road.
Recreational programs within the garden such as catch-and-release fishing and overnight camping will be affected by the delay, according to DPR. Fishing will resume on Jan. 7 and permitted camping on Jan. 9.
Once the garden reopens in January, regular closures every Thursday will resume on Jan. 8.
