Hi my fig has been dropping leaves at the bottom for a month or so, but still growing new ones at the top. It’s in a self watering pot and sit in the corner of the room because I have limited space. Because it mainly relies on the grow light at the top the bottom leaves barely get enough light except a few hours a day in the winters. Is this why it’s been dropping leaves? Any ways to stimulate regrowth at the bottom? Thanks

Are you sure there isn’t a window you can place this plant in front of? Even with the grow light, I really don’t think it’s getting enough. This is not a shade loving plant and that grow light isn’t doing anything for the lower leaves. It looks like it does get a tiny bit of direct light, but if you can give it more…. that would help a LOT.

I also worry about it being in a self watering pot. It’s best to water these plants very deeply and then don’t water them again until the top layer of soil is nice and dry again. Regular wet/dry cycles are best and a self watering pot keeps the soil wet for a lot longer. It doesn’t LOOK like overwatering, but it’s still something I’d worry about.

Sorry, there’s not really a good way to get new leaves down low. Leaves only grow on active growth buds and those are only on tips of branches/trunks. You could try something called notching to get it to form new branches down low, but I’ve never managed to get that to work. Usually I use pruning to get new branches to form.
