I have a house filled with thriving happy plants. I have monsteras, I have Chinese evergreens. I have wandering dudes. I have snake plant. I have rattlesnake plant. I have pine. I have aloe. I have Antherium. I’ve got like 4 million Pothos. I’ve got spider but this plant can take a flying leap. Never again.

If someone lives in Las Vegas and wants to rescue it from the garbage can I would be amenable today only, otherwise it’s going to the compost heap in the sky.

  2. That sucks.. mine has died 15 times over the years and right now it’s the biggest plant i have in my house. I’m sure it will pitch another fit in a few years and I’ll have to poke it again and it will regrow again. It’s a weird one for sure.

idk, calatheas are some of my lowest maintenance ones, just use one of those self watering pots and your gucci

Poor maranta. My Marty does pretty well with neglect. Maybe its very dry there?

Enjoy your freedom of a calathea free lifestyle, my friend. I got rid of mine last year and haven’t looked back since. Every day is a great day for a calathea free life.

My mom kept buying me caltheas until I told her she needed to stop cause I end up watching them cling to life for 6 months before dying. My house is too dry for them & the bathroom is too dark

  7. I had one of these. It kept dying and driving me nuts. This spring I took it out of the pot and pitched it on my compost. Went back to the pile this summer and it was thriving

I’ve been trying to put one on the edge of death out of its misery for weeks. Damn plant keeps putting out new leaves but still looks sad as hell 🤷‍♀️

  9. Sure_Performance2792

I hear you. It’s okay. You should just keep plants that make you happy.

Weird – mine is in a decorative pot with no drainage hole like 15 feet from the closest window and gets watered probably every 2 weeks and thrives. I’m in Montana, dry and cold lol.

Sigh. My 4 year old always just fine plant just did the same bullshit 🙄. Like died overnight. I cut 80% of the leaves off and hoped it would bounce back. Nope. I hear they come back so I’ve left it sit there to look like shit and taunt me lmao fingers crossed I guess.

  12. It’s a Bye Felicia if you no longer spark joy in my household. Thrive or die!

Mine looked absolutely terrible for the first year I had it. I even thought it was completely dead at one point. I cut it all the way back and put it in a self watering pot. Now it’s one of the easiest and fullest plants I have.

  14. XamosLife

Yeah I did the same. I bought it, I watered it, it was fine for a few days, then it just decided to off itself. Diva plant

I just threw out my vittata last night. I had the miserable sonofabitch for about 7 years, maybe? This winter i broke down and put a ziploc bag over it to try to increase humidity. Well, it hated that. I give up. I feel bad, but also, fuck that thing.

I had one for a decade, it would do great and then ok, over and over, then I moved it and it almost instantly died. Another more recent one that had thrived and was gorgeous for a while pretty much died at the same time and I took it as a sign. Buh-bye!

Poor guy! Got two in a west facing window (New England area) and forgot about the sucker til I saw a flower one day. Maybe you’ll reconsider they’re so fun seeing the leaves go up and down all day…when you remember you have them.

  18. Recipe-Local

In my experience, they’re pretty hard to make happy.

  19. I had same problem. I got one for a bday gift from my son and repotted it about 10 months later cuz it went from 5 leaves to 40! It then proceeded to die one bunch at a time. I left it on the counter and it is slowly coming back from neglect! Or maybe it likes the dim light over there? Idk

  20. At first glance your pic looks like a SPIDER! 😫

  21. AdministrativeIce108

And this is why I refuse to buy any of these plants lol I hate finicky plants! Like bamboo… pain in my ass lol

  22. Large_Scientist_7004

God I fucking hate these. They’re lovely but I always kill them 😞 the weather here is no help either. Poor things.

  23. Sacrificial-Cherry

They have cycles, sometimes they just die off and new shoots come up from the little maranta potatoes in the soil, pls go back and take it home and let it be a few months (water when dry ofc).

  24. Ok-Pain7362

This looks exactly like mine when I tried to raise one last year. It died a slow and agonizing death.

  25. I panted sone in a planned bio active tank that never got housed with anything. It has gone absolutely crazy on neglect. Now i cant house anyin there that ibwould ever hope to see because it has become an absolute jungle.

  26. Plus_Helicopter_8632

Wow disrespectful, no wonder it didn’t live

  27. TouchTheMoss

Those buggers are so finicky with light and humidity. I’m lucky that I found the one spot in my house that it thrives in; I neglect the heck out of it sometimes too, but it always bounces back.
