Decided to finally have a go at grafting and here are my masterpieces… boyyyy I'll tell ya, getting a straight edge on the root stock is much harder than you think. In the first pic (Ogun x SS02 on a grandi) I had to just accept the results after a while because I damn near cut all the flesh off. In the second pic (NOID bridge on a grandi) it turned out slanted as well…. BUT them things are on there nice, tight, and solid after wrapping them in about 10+ rubber bands each (had my 1st graft fail about a week or so ago so lets just say I got a lil paranoid–it was an unhappy TBM-B scion that ended up getting the notorious humidity spots and toppled clean off the grandi after unwrapping).
Needless to say, I bought a grafting knife and a Lowe's Sun Goddess so I'll the grafting the mid-section of the parent plant of my OgunxSS02 when I get back from Christmas vacation (which the anticipation is going to absolutely fry me alive 😩 Im gonna miss my babies so much). Hopefully the next round goes smoother!
P.S. while I'm sure my new grafting knife will help ensure a straight smooth cut, any tips on getting a cleaner cut are appreciated

Grandi and sungoddess can be a bitch lmao but I’ve found thick cardboard or normal stuff doubled up or a shirt bunched up or a rag any of these options almost like a vertical cutting board hold the side of the cactus with it an cut into the cactus and straight at the cardboard but be careful your not cutting anything but the cactus so too much of a swipe and your ganna catch your hand especially with a good knife hence why I say double up , this method has given me better flat cuts for the sungoddess I’ve found them to be more effective then grandi but they both do great work pumping the scion. Looking good tho you’ll start to see your work get better and better the more ya give it a shot 🫡🤘💪💚🌵
Key for me is a knife that isn’t serrated. Good job! That’s a great feeling and when it starts pumping, it’s super rewarding.
Hey may not be straight but it got the job done! It’ll look better once it starts pumping.
