Possibly something in the less common magnolia family? I don’t think it’s a star magnolia but maybe something similar.

The leaves look like pawpaw to me, but I’ve never seen one with a trunk like that

It’s almost certainly one of the oriental magnolias, but kinda hard to tell which one this time if year. Check back in a couple of months with pics of the flowers. Definitely a keeper!
