Garden Grove’s boys basketball team escaped at home with a 58-56 non-league victory over University Wednesday night.

The Argonauts got a steal on a deflection with seven seconds to go, called a timeout and senior Neiman Quach hit a spinning, driving layup as time expired.

Garden Grove (8-6) was down by seven points with 5:21 to go. Quach led the team with 24 points with nine coming in the fourth quarter. Senior teammate Ethan Juarez added 13 points.

University (2-10) suffered another close loss and was led by the Chalan brothers.

Sophomore Yousuf Chalan tied a career high with 17 points. Junior Nader Chalan had 11 points and five steals.

Senior forward Joshua Thio had nine points on three 3-pointers adding four rebounds and four assists. Junior center Abdallah Shami had six points, 10 rebounds, four assists and three steals.
