Become a Young Peasant in The Abbess Garden

MD Studio has announced that The Abbess Garden, the cozy narrative gardening game, will launch on March 2, 2026. The release date reveal arrives alongside the studio’s partnership with indie.io and the game’s selection for the Women-Led Games – The Game Awards Edition.

Set in France in 1643, The Abbess Garden is a third-person gardening experience rooted in history, careful observation, and gentle storytelling. Players step into the role of Agnès, a young peasant given the rare opportunity to restore a long-forgotten private garden at the abbey of Port Royal des Champs. The abbey is a real historical location that now exists as a national museum.

Gardening forms the core of the experience and draws inspiration from real-world botany. Players plant, water, move, and tend to flora according to authentic needs. This includes soil quality, moisture levels, and how plants affect one another. Without grid-based placement, the garden grows naturally, evolving across seasons and through multiple stages of each plant’s life. Flowers, roots, leaves, and seeds can be harvested at precise moments for medicine, research, and story-focused tasks.

As the garden flourishes, new areas open and hidden objects emerge, feeding into a quiet mystery surrounding a book left behind by a deceased spy. The community must uncover its meaning before it draws the attention of European royalty. The game also tells a warm, linear story about patience, care, and human connection, including a softly developed romance.

Designed to be calm and welcoming, The Abbess Garden allows players to move forward at their own pace. It promises to encourage reflection, discovery, and simple enjoyment of tending a living space.
