Police and city medical examiners are investigating the death of a 72-year old woman found dead near the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx this week, according to NYPD officials.

Officials said officers received a 911 call about the woman around 6:45 a.m. Tuesday and discovered her unresponsive on the ground near Southern Boulevard and East Fordham Road in Belmont. Emergency medical workers pronounced her dead at the scene.

Police later identified the woman as Lydia Marzan, saying she lived about a mile and a half away on Walton Avenue and East 182nd Street in Fordham Heights.

Investigators are working to determine her cause of death, though officials said it does not immediately appear to be suspicious.

This is a developing story based on preliminary information from police and may be updated.
