Well, folks, we have our first ever winter garden planted. We are excited about it. As you can see, we're prepared to tuck them in at night when the temps reach down to freezing or whenever we're supposed to do it. I have to follow Google on that or advice from friends. So, if y'all have any advice for us on gardening with garlic and cabbage for the winter, why just drop it in the comments. Um, we also have English peas planted. I know I got them in late, some are harvesting already, but we thought the seeds were a couple years old and we really don't have anything to lose. We'll go and put them in the ground and see what happens. As you can see, at least I think you can see it behind me. They're up. And by the way, I am Martha and Dorothy and I welcome you to Hersburgger's Miracle Homestead. We're excited you're with us today. We want to welcome all of our new subscribers. And if you've been with us for a while, thanks for your continued support. A friend of ours watches some of our YouTube videos and he saw our harvest of 2025 sweet potatoes and we did 266 pounds of container gardening sweet potatoes. And we'll leave a link for that video in the description. but he had four bulbs of music garlic and he gifted that to us so we can plant that in our containers here. And so it's our first time ever experience with garlic and also our first time ever experience with cabbage in the winter. So we're excited to see how this venture will work. He gave us some tips and tricks on how to separate the garlic. So, we will start out with that and show you getting the garlic ready for the ground. This is beautiful music garlic and my first time ever prepping garlic to plant. Our friend said he uses a knife to help with the separation. I wanted to be sure not to cut the clothes, so I used the table knife to gently press between each clove. As you can see, I'm not peeling the garlic. I'm just separating the cloves. And once I got the hang of it, it really wasn't bad at all. And now out to our container gardening spot. So, we're going to give this a go. So, hopefully we'll have a good harvest this spring and be able to share garlic with him and then keep some for oursel. So, thanks to the person who gifted this to us. We appreciate it very much. All right, we're going to hop over to the other side of this little garden plot and busy preparing to plant the garlic. Well, folks, our lawnmower is useful for more than one thing. What you see here might not look very heavy, but some of the containers we needed to replace. I put the dirt in here. So, half of the wagon is dirt, and dirt is heavy. So, I said I'm going to let the lawn more work for us. All right. The garlic would be going in these two containers. I was going to do that container as well and it was loaded with ants. So, I just pulled all that dirt out and I have not had time to re I have not had time to set it up again because it's self- wicking. So, I need to redo all that. So, we will concentrate on the containers we have and we will let that one rest. I guess have a few weeds here. Now the sweet potatoes, they took certain amount of nutrition out of the ground as it was as they were feeding themselves. So another gardener said they just use mushroom compost and that helps to amend the soil. So that's what I've been doing last year and this year for the summer garden and it's worked well. So I will just put a little bit on each one. We'll plant these two then and see how much garlic we have left as far as that's a stone. As far as using any other containers we have, my understanding is that you want them about two 2 in down in and then one in the center. That feels like a stone. And Dorothy Googled about bone meal and this said yes, it is wise to use bone meal. Bone meal encourages strong healthy roots. So I'm going to put a tablespoon in each hole. Well, side tablespoon. Then we'll stir it up a little bit. Now we'll just stir each hole up a little bit that the bone meal will be there to encourage that strong root system. All right, here goes. Now, this is not a tutorial because, as I said, I have never planted garlic before. So, if these make it, it's tips from our friend and what we have seen on YouTube. I do know the root part you want down and then the tip up and put them in about two inches. And now one more thing, and that's put mulch over it. And I was so afraid I'd get the wrong kind of mulch. I didn't want anything that had any dye to it with the coloring of it. So, we went to I think it was Amazon and Googled and it says this is a garden straw garden mulch safe for veggies and ideal for edible garden and lawn seedlings. So, I'm taking them at their word that this is a good mulch to use in your garden for garlic and other things, too. So, Yes, it's windy. All righty, we have this garlic tucked away for the winter. Let the root system do their thing to push forward with garlic in the spring. Okay. >> [music] [music] >> All right. A little bit of mushroom compost yet. This container has four cabbages in. And here is a sticker I've stuck in here. It's a stone head cabbage from Halt. >> The cabbage came from Halt. And now I'll show you the unboxing of the cabbage. Open the package. hos live plants. You'll find a link for grow hos in the description. Thank you for your order from Hos. Then we help you grow and you give suggestives for plant foods and that type of thing. There's your sticker you can put in the dirt so you can mark what you have. Oh my goodness. Tucked away in the box. Okay, it'll be tomorrow before we plant them, but the instructions said to uh still open the package cuz they'll need air by now and to moisten the plugs again. Okay, this may they may look a little sad, but that's okay. But actually, in my opinion, they look very good. Here's a little yellow leaf that we can take off tomorrow then when we plant them. So, I'm just to put a light thing of mulch around it. [music] [music] There we go. [music] >> [music] >> We still have seven garlic left. So, I'm going to see what I can come up with [music] here. Two. Three. Four. Five. Six. Oh, we'll push it a little bit. And I'll put one right there. See if that'll work. Okay. [music] [music] All righty. Cover these up. Well, I have successfully planted the garlic. At least they are planted. The spring will let me know if I did it successfully. Now, after I put the mosh around the first bed of cabbage I did, I thought, you know, I better Google and make sure that it's okay and I'm doing it right. And it said not to have it right up on the stem of the cabbage. So, I pulled that back a little bit. So, we're going to go put mulch around the other cabbages. All righty. Here we go. Now, the five gallon bucket here of cabbage, I think this smalsh is going to do wonders for it to help keep moisture there. I don't I don't get out here like I do in the summertime to water things. Well, one thing you're not supposed to in the winter from what I underread. Like I say, this is my first winter. And so this will help keep the moisture in the dirt and hopefully that will rally around and come back. If not, we'll just take a lesson learned, keep it moist. And now for the golden thought. We are in November. The holidays around the corner, Thanksgiving and Christmas, and this can be a lonely time for a lot of people. If you have family surrounding you, that's wonderful. But when you're alone, for whatever reason, it can be a very lonely time. So, I read the golden thought here and it just blessed me and I hope it blesses you. I am a beloved child of God. I am made in his image. I matter to him. I will not let the enemy or anyone else convince me these things are not true. And this is so very important. I know at times the holidays can be very lonely. I know what that is cuz my dream for years have been to have a family of my own and that never happened. So I know how it is to be lonely and longing for something. But ultimately knowing that I matter to God and I am made in his image and my purpose here is to bring honor and glory to him. And with that, that was a huge encouragement to me just to keep on keeping on because I matter to God and I want to bring honor and glory to him. So I'll read this again and I hope it blesses you and just remember that you matter to God. I am a beloved child of God. I am made in his image. I matter to him. I will not let the enemy or anyone else convince me that these things are not true. [music] So, we hope you've enjoyed today's video. We hope you've been blessed, encouraged, and inspired. And until [music] next time, God bless. And here are some other videos I think you would enjoy. We appreciate you joining us today. We invite you to like, share, comment, and subscribe.
