So just like the title, every time I see new leaves sprouting, she kills off the ones she already has 🥲 These three were growing pretty okay, not the best honestly. They sprouted beautifully but refused to get bigger since. But they were healthy and colorful. Last week I noticed 2 buds coming up and now the leaves she already has are losing color and clearly going to die…I’m so sad. Is she not getting something she needs ?? I water every 1-1.5 weeks and she sits half in front of a south facing window half “shade”. Ihave no idea how to get her to keep her leaves, has anyone experienced this ??

There is something that they’re missing that it only has enough energy to sustain the leaves it has. It may need more sun, more water, more ambient humidity, more fertilizer, new soil or a different size pot.
For an alocasia, in my experience watering every 1-1.5 weeks is too low. I often find myself needing to water mine twice a week, ESPECIALLY when they are putting out new foliage. They’re thirsty bitches. Maybe more sun too! And fertilize every once in a while.
I had a a. Zebrina that did the same. The second I repotted her she put out three new leaves in just a few weeks.
How often do you fertilize?
I would say maybe look to add some fertilizer. It sounds like she needs more food. Alocasias use the energy in older leaves if they are not getting what they need from water &/or substrate. Adding a fertilizer helps minimize this
Personally, what i found to help with that is giving them more light.
Most likely lack of fertilizer like others have mentioned. Could be also combination of too dense soil, lack of light and fertilizer. If plant gets proper light then you should give fertilizer basically everytime you water. Especially if it is an alocasia wich grow quite fast.
I would wait till the spring and repot in a chunky mix of soil, orchid bark, perlite. Look up some alocasia repotting videos to see what a good chunky mix looks like. With a well-draining medium it would need water more often and you can fertilize about once week. Good luck!
