REGION – The Green Mountain Gardeners of Londonderry, Weston, Landgrove, and Peru, last Monday held their annual gathering to make holiday table decorations for their homebound neighbors.
The South Londonderry Depot was full of the smell of pine and the sounds of chatter as 20 members, dressed in holiday sweaters and their garden-club aprons, built festive, tree-shaped arrangements in small cans or holiday mugs. They attached miniature ornaments, ribbons, and even small lights to the trees, to brighten the holiday tables of the recipients.
The Wantastiquet Rotary Club delivered the gifts to local homebound people identified by local service organizations. The Weston Women’s Club donated boxes of homemade cookies to add to the holiday spirit.
Always part of this annual event for the garden club is a members’ bake and gift sale, the proceeds of which are donated to a local organization. The homemade goodies and small gifts are always popular. This year, the proceeds will be donated to Neighborhood Connections.
The event committee put together a light lunch, and the day was capped off by a spirited auction of the last few items in the bake sale.
This annual event is one example of how the Green Mountain Gardeners fulfill their twofold mission to spread gardening and horticultural knowledge, and to serve their communities. For more information about the Green Mountain Gardeners, please visit www.greenmountaingardeners.net.
