Just noticed this unfortunate specimen on my family’s land, a bit concerning due to the direction of the lean on the right half of the tree, with the cottage being built nearby. It creaks and “pops” a lot in the wind. Would this be a good candidate for cabling? Is it even worth it at the trees age? Is it not as structurally compromised as it seems? I’d hat to have to take it down but its not worth putting the cottage/future parking area in jeopardy. I have a very knowledgeable pro arborist in-law who’s coming to check out the property with me soon, just looking for some thoughts. Thanks

If it’s a specimen tree worth keeping a cable would be the way to go. If it’s just another tree in the woods as far as everyone is concerned I’d remove it. If it adds nothing but liability just cut it down.
