The White County Master Gardeners are giving back to the community by supporting local students through the Backpack Program, an initiative designed to ensure children have access to nutritious food over the weekend when school meals are unavailable.

As part of the community service project, Master Gardener volunteers collected and donated a carload of food and snacks to Rose Bud High School. The donation was delivered by Brian Haller, CEA–Staff Chair and Master Gardener, along with volunteer Marilyn Sims, and presented to Rose Bud High School Principal Jonna Moore.

The Backpack Program plays a vital role in addressing food insecurity among students, helping them return to school better prepared to learn and succeed. Local Extension officials say the project reflects the Master Gardeners’ ongoing commitment to strengthening White County communities.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to make a difference right here in White County, especially during the holiday season,” said Sherri Sanders, White County Extension Agriculture Agent. “Our Master Gardener volunteers are always willing to step up to support local families, and this project is a wonderful example of their generosity and compassion.”

The White County Master Gardeners thanked all members who contributed food and support, noting that their generosity helps nourish both minds and bodies while making a lasting impact on local students and families.
