An official ribbon-cutting ceremony took place at Roedeer Gardens development in Bury to celebrate the launch.

Representatives from Bury Council attended the ceremony at the new development.

The development contains 81 three- and four-bedroom homes for rent and to buy.

It is based on the site of the former Seedfield Centre and Roedeer Gardens is being built by Lovell on behalf of Hive Homes.

Cllr Sandra Walmersley, the council’s cabinet member for communities and inclusion, and Cllr Babar Ibrahim were joined by representatives from Southway Housing Trust, Hive Homes, and Bury Council, who also attended a tour of the show homes.

Roedeer Gardens, which will contain 21 affordable homes, will have six houses transferred to a registered provider for shared ownership.

Nine homes will be transferred to Bury Council for affordable rent, while six of the houses will be part of the Government’s First Homes scheme, offering discounted properties to first-time buyers.

The development has also provided £286,000 for new club changing facilities, access improvements to adjacent playing fields and two new dedicated car parks for Seedfield Sports Juniors FC.

Councillor Eamonn O’Brien, the leader of Bury Council, said: “It’s fantastic to see Roedeer Gardens taking shape and the first show homes now open.

“This development is a great example of our ‘brownfield first’ approach, turning a derelict site into a thriving community with homes for a range of needs.

“We’re excited to see families moving in soon and the area coming back to life.”

Ed Milner, managing director of Hive Homes, said: “Opening the show homes marks a major milestone for Roedeer Gardens.

“We’re proud to be delivering high-quality, energy-efficient homes that meet the needs of local people, from first-time buyers to growing families.”
