This year’s Caldy Open Gardens has raised more than £40,000 for Age UK Wirral, Liverpool and Sefton, enabling the charity to purchase two wheelchair-accessible vehicles, with a third vehicle in the pipeline.

These vehicles will support its Home from Hospital service, which helps vulnerable people return home safely after a hospital stay, attend follow-up medical appointments, and recover with the support they need.

Rich Crosbie, lead for Out of Hospital Services, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to everyone involved in Caldy Open Gardens 2025 for enabling us to replace our worn out vehicles with a new fleet.

“This guarantees we can run our Home from Hospital service efficiently and reliably for years to come.

“From each and every person who will benefit from our new vehicles – thank you.”

The service aims to reduce hospital readmissions and free up hospital beds by supporting individuals in their recovery and helping them settle safely back at home.

The funds were raised through the generosity of garden owners who opened their gardens to the public, as well as through the efforts of event volunteers and visitors.

Neil Gregory at Mitchell Group also supported the fundraising.

With remaining funds, Age UK Wirral, Liverpool & Sefton will purchase a third vehicle – a general purpose van to transport luggage, furniture, medical equipment and other essential items for their day-to-day support work.

Organisers have expressed their gratitude to the planning team, including Rachel, Matt, Philippa, Fiona and Lynne, as well as the charity’s staff and gardeners who made the event possible.

A spokesperson for the event said: “A heartfelt thank you to everyone who opened their gardens, volunteered, or visited during Caldy Open Gardens 2025.

“This service not only transforms individual lives but also reduces hospital readmissions and frees up beds sooner, benefitting the whole community.”
