(This is very painful to write and Im not a frequent reddit user so sorry if this breaks any protocols..)

The title explains it all, but last week my grandmother passed away. I lived with her (and my grandfather) and this home is all Ive ever known. Growing up I completely ignored and took this plant for granted, never taught to appreciate it.

…And now its the most precious momento I have of them.

Please help me identify it and figure out how to save it. Its survived 30+ years. Excuse the mess, theres… alot to clean.

Sorry for your loss. Dwarf umbrella tree, Heptapleurum (Schefflera) arboricola.

NO.1- throw out the MG products. get a 5 – 10 gallon pot that drains. its most likely rootbound and the soil is out of nutrients. use foxfarm or roots organic soil. give lots of light. dont fertilize for at least 6 months to a year. if you do use foxfarm grow big.

It is desperate for light which is why it is all pressed against the blinds.

Please open those blinds and leave them open

I like this plant. Idk what it is. I would cut all the dead branches and leaves off and repot it. Alaska fish fertilizer is the only food it needs once every week or two. It’ll be ok. And more light. You can take a picture and Google search what kind of plant it is.
