Four appliances were sent to the scene following reports of the blaze.

The owners of the garden centre confirmed the news on social media, writing: 

“We regret to inform you that we will be CLOSED for the foreseeable future – the Garden Centre & Cafe have burned down.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said that reports of a fire were received at 2:16 AM on Monday.

The spokesperson said: “Operations Control mobilised four appliances to Tarbolton Road, where firefighters worked to extinguish the fire.

“One appliance remains on scene with crews working to extinguish remaining hot-spots.

“There are no casualties.”

The business is run by the Hayes family, who have been involved in horticulture for eight generations. 

Peter Hayes and his son Michael opened the site in Bogend in 1988, expanding their business which originally began in the Lake District.

Garden centre patrons expressed their condolences on social media, with many saying they were shocked to hear the news. 

Georgeen Morton said on Facebook: “This is tragic. The best garden centre around and cafe is amazing. Thinking of you all. 

“Hope you manage to get it up and running again.”
