I have a polka dot begonia that has shot straight into the air recently and I’m not sure if I should wait to repot it. The research I’ve found is that it’s best to repot in the spring, which absolutely makes sense, but will I kill it if I wait that long? I’m also afraid of it tipping over so I got some stakes for it. I would appreciate any advice you have to give! Thank you! (She lives under a grow light and a window.)

Yes, because I only repot when the plant needs it.
I just recently divided my hibiscus and coffee plant, and only plant that didn’t make it was the tiniest coffee sapling I guessed wouldn’t make it through winter because it didn’t have much roots left after all of them were separated. I still have six coffee plants left. And my hibiscus is now three hibiscuses, all happy in their new pots despite getting their roots mangled terribly.
I repot whenever the mood strikes me. It’s fine. They almost always live so long as you don’t forego common sense completely.
Should be fine do long as you arent disturbing the roots too much.
I repot anytime. I throw dirt and caution to the wind!
Yes I do. That advice sounds more correct for outdoor plants. My house is pretty consistent temperature wise year round, the only thing that changes is there’s more direct light in winter but shorter overall light time.
I repot based on the plants behavior, not time of year. If growth is slowing down, water retention decreases, or the roots are outgrowing the pot/the roots have eaten the soil, I’m gonna get in there and see what’s up.
Not advice but I had no idea they could get this big!!!!! My polka dot has been growing like crazy but nowhere near this beauty!!
Your plants live inside, there is no season. You keep your home at an average temp year round.
Begonia are primarily tropical, not temperate, so their season is year round. 💚
I have kept houseplants for decades and this idea of repotting by season blows my mind. I had never heard of it until recently.
What exactly are the seasons inside of a temperature controlled home🤨
Yes i do. It won’t hurt it. It will help it grow
i can’t speak to begonias, but i repot when needed. period.
never had an issue. i’m in nothern hemisphere and i’m in the middle of a whole bunch of repots since last week.
never understood the value of leaving a plant rootbound (or whatever) simply because it might be ‘resting’. there’s really no connection between the two. cramped is cramped 😉
if anything, dormancy would be the BEST time to do major root pruning/repotting, as you’re not disturbing anything actively growing.
and the plant wakes up w/a nice new room, to get bangin’ right outta da gate 😉
is it rootbound ?
my 0.02 🙂
I actually deliberately repot during winter. Beginning in early spring, I’m busy tending my garden outdoors, so I don’t have time for my houseplants. My home is heated and I use grow lights so they don’t know what season it is anyway 🤷♀️
I don’t see indoor plants as out of season, with all the lights and constant fertilization, no temp changes or watering. I repot as needed.
Yes.
yep! Just repotted my mini monstera today! She was dropping leaves, drying out too fast, and her growth slowed, she was dying from being root bound. Your plant will tell you when it needs some help and i’ve never experienced trouble from repotting out of season :))
I report all year
Yeah, I do. With houseplants that get proper light, seasons don’t matter that much.
I repot in spring, unless it’s dying or I can’t manage the watering needs anymore. I’d pay attention to the roots and how quickly they soak up water- which can indicate how ready it is to repot. I don’t think it’s a big deal, but I do anyway- however, I also trim all at once as well. I figure one traumatic event is better than multiple.
I repot whenever the plant needs it or when I have time
Topical plants grown indoors under relatively consistent conditions have no season.
As long as it’s actively growing i would go for it.
Okay but they are getting reduced light unless you use grow lights. So there is kind of a season. My plants are getting softer light for less time in the winter which makes them go into shock easier if I mess with them. I usually don’t make any sudden moves and hope we all make it through winter but I did just repot everything because they were overdue and they’re all very upset
I repot when i have the energy to do it tbh
