Every year we have a family plant growing competition. We’ve done tallest climbers – Black Eyed Susan, tallest sunflower, and now it’s my turn to choose and start them off. Any suggestions for something where a winner can be easily chosen? Not everyone has a greenhouse so something relatively easy! I do grow massive dahlias from seed one year so maybe that!

I’d follow the grow uour own potatoes idea they do for schools. Pick a variety of early potato, 5 tubers to go in a 35l pot, plant on the same day, 7th March, 2026 and harvest 14 weeks later, 13 June. Go for heaviest crop of spuds.
