Hi all,
Admittedly I have probably neglected this pittosporum tree for quite some time… After cutting it back today I’ve noticed it has quite bad root rot and appears to have black spores all up the trunk starting from the base.
My question is, is this tree still salvageable or should I cut it back and start again?

Remove all those rocks from the poor things trunk, it’s rotting there.

Black spots are Scale , easy to fix on the trees while small. Not so much when they are bigger.

That looks like a pretty bad scale infestation to me.
It’s quite treatable but requires a bit of effort. You can spray it with eco-oil or even soapy water, but you have to keep it at.
You can even flick them off and squash all the little buggers if you like
