I grew basil, Thai basil, tomatoes and tomatillo from seed.

I've been keeping the rest of the potted seedlings next to my garden bed because I haven't decided what to do and if my plants fail I can swap one out.

For some reason the plants in the tiny pots are generally going better than the ones I put in my garden.

The garden is on a drip feed system with sugar cane mulch. When I transferred I moved the largest, healthiest plants in to the garden bed.

I'm trying to figure out why they're not doing as well.

My thoughts are.

Too much moisture due to sugar cane mulch, so I've reduced the timer on the drip feed system.

Maybe the grass just gets a little more sun there.

Any advice? I'm tempted to swap out a basil and Thai basil because there's a large difference now.

How long have they been replanted for?

It’s not unusual to see a bit of stress due to transplant shock.

Its hard to know without being there, but my two guesses are:

    * Your soil in your garden bed is not optimal. The soil in the pots are specifically for seedlings, so full of nutrients. Can you add more seasol or fertiliser.
    * The drippers might not be enough. I would clear some of the straw from the base and give the plants some breathing room. Water directly onto the roots, especially on hot days, with a good soaking. Have you got a moisture probe?

They’re using energy in setting their roots down into the fresh soil. Give them a couple of weeks, and they will overtake the ones still in pots.
