Members of the Fredonia Garden Club gathered at The White Inn in May for their annual luncheon and installation of officers.

Past President, Rosemary Mancuso, administered the oath of office to the following: President, Kim Woodward; Vice President, Annabell Hahn; Recording Secretary, Carol McEntarfer; Corresponding Secretary, Peggy Spears; Treasurer, Illa Merryweather.

In June, a visit to the Royal Fern Nursery, where a presentation of native plants was given by Jessica and Jonathan Townsend and a tour of the gardens containing an extensive display of native flowers and plants was enjoyed by all. Members also had an opportunity to shop for their favorites and to visit the Botany Barn, where handcrafted items were available for sale.

Garden club members were treated to a wonderful tour of two local area gardens in July. The homeowners gave a walking tour and narrative of the many beautiful trees, shrubs and flowers within their gardens. Also in July, the Garden Club’s entry in the Chautauqua County Fair, Flowers in Paris, was awarded a blue ribbon for Best in Class.

An October visit to The Basket Barn in Allegany, for a basket-making workshop was a fun event for the club members, where they learned the art of basket weaving and made a variety of unique baskets. Lunch at the Beef and Barrel followed.

At the November meeting, members brought their creative Fall flower arrangements for all to enjoy and critique. Also, in preparation for the holiday season, the group gathered at The Meeting House in Forestville for a wreath-making workshop. A variety of fresh greens, ribbons, pine cones and other dried materials were available for members to create lovely wreaths to adorn their homes for the holidays.

In a long-standing tradition, wreaths were placed on the entrance doors of the Fredonia Opera House to welcome patrons during the holiday season.

To conclude the 2025 calendar year, the Garden Club’s annual Christmas luncheon and gift exchange will be held in December at the home of Kathy Buckley. Always a festive occasion with a wonderful assortment of dishes and delicious desserts for all to enjoy. In January, the garden club will meet to schedule their meetings and activities for the new year.
