I found this tank on the side of the road the other day. I was going to put fish in it, but what I thought was hardwater buildup looks like etching. So, I just bought a new one for fish.

Any reason I can't put it on it's and and make it into a vivarium? I have a pretty small apartment so space is limited, but there are a few random corners where it'd fit perfect that way. I just resealed it with fresh silicone and hate to throw it out. I'm completely new to this, but I've been wanting to do one for a while.

I did find one older post and a couple YouTube videos. So, it looks like it's doable.

Idk this seems risky. Why not keep it horizontal? You could get some terrestrial frogs 😊

Yeah you could. I used to convert 10, 20 and 40 gallon tanks into vertical vivs for mantid, stick/leaf insect, tarantula and vampire crab vivariums by adding a 4-6 inch panel of glass at the bottom and a strip at the top and install sliding glass track using an 1/8 inch glass panel with a glued on glass knob handle for the front access doors. As long as you silicone well at the plastic frame and both sides of the glass panel it shouldn’t leak.

I did this to a 30gal for a gold dust day gecko about 2 years ago and haven’t had an issues. It was pretty easy too. Although I made mine open at the side rather than the front so it was more wide than deep if that makes sense.
