An expert has revealed the clever reason Brits should hang onto their bubble wrap this December. Many UK households are busy with online shopping this festive season, receiving several packages at their homes in the run-up to the big day of gifting. Many things that people order around Christmas time, such as electronics and home appliances, come in quite a bit of wrapping, often featuring bubble wrap to keep them safe.

It feels quite wasteful to throw all of that bubble wrap away, so you should check to see if there is anything you can use it for. One expert has weighed in with their suggestion, and it applies to anyone who has a shed in their garden. There are a few jobs Brits need to do to protect their sheds in the winter months, as these garden structures go up against cold and changeable weather. Bubble wrap comes in handy when protecting them in winter. Here’s how.

According to Atlas Sheds UK, bubble wrap is a great way to insulate your shed. Insulating your shed is important because it can reduce condensation, reducing the risk of mould and damp issues.

This is especially important if you store electronic tools or appliances in your garden shed, as these can get damaged by too much moisture. The experts revealed that bubble wrap can simply be attached to the frames of your garden walls.

“The air-filled pockets in the bubble wrap create a simple but effective barrier against heat loss and draughts, keeping hot air in and cold air out,” they said.

Meanwhile, Sam Jenkinson from Woodlands Home & Garden Group says: “Bubble wrap is one of the best options if you’re on a tight budget, and perfect for this time of year, when many of us are buying gifts and receiving deliveries.

“Instead of throwing it away, you can reuse the leftover packaging to help insulate your shed. Just measure and cut strips of bubble wrap, overlap them for better coverage, and staple them to the wall panels. For more warmth or a neater finish, you can even cover them with OSB or plywood.”

Other ways to insulate your garden shed include pallet wood cladding, plasterboard, and old rugs and blankets. However, using bubble wrap gives you the opportunity to be more sustainable this festive season.
